1947 Standard Flying 8 DHC

The Drophead Coupe was the top of the Standard 8 model range, better than the convertible as it had wind up windows instead of side screens and was generally a better quality body, but still a full four seat open tourer with the roof down.

This example has only 3 owners from new and full history file to prove it!

Restored by it's second owner between 1985 and 1994, having been kept in a dry garage on blocks for many years by the first owner, the file states that there was only one tiny hole in a rear wheel arch that need a welded repair, it was in amazingly sound condition.

The first owner had the car for 38 years, the second owner then having sold the car on in 2018, owned it for 33 years!

Considering the restoration was finished 25 years ago, the car is still very smart, although there are odd minor faults in the paintwork due to age and use.

Recent works include an engine rebuild, new kingpins, rebuilt carb, fuel pump and starter motor. The battery is new and the regulator box is one of the superb electronic conversions that looks like the original but works much better.

The car was retrimmed when restored and that is all in good order, just a little wear as you may expect. Last year the original hood material was stripped off, the hood frame repaired as required and then it was recoverd in "double duck" hood material, which finishes the car off very nicely.

The original fitted tool kit behind the back seat is present and correct.

There is also 2 folders full of history, reciepts, handbooks, restoration photos, etc, etc. There is even the original guarantee (which has now expired!), and the first insurance document from 1947!

The car looks smart, runs like the preverbial sewing machine and drives superbly,  very rare and delightful car that attracts an admiring crowd wherever it goes.

Sold freshly serviced and with a new mot (even though not required), ready to use and enjoy once the sun comes out!

    Sorry,  now

    SOLD
