1968 Mini Cooper S Mk2
This one is going to be pretty difficult to repeat! A genuine Cooper S with all its proper bits, just 3 owners from new and just over 3000 miles since 1990!
In very original condition, yes, its had new sills and some floor repairs, but it is the original shell, with original paint in the engine bay and boot.
Nearly all the correct Cooper "S" fittings are present, twin tanks, boot board brackets (the board itself is missing), reclining bucket seats, servo, 130mph speedo, etc, etc and all are original fitment when the car was new, not modern repro bits.
The car was supplied new to P.C. Tonkin Motor Engineers of Bugle on 7th March 1968, then sold to the second owner, a Mr Bartlett of St Austell on 24th March 1971, Mr Bartlett owned the car until 2018 (47 years!), when the current owner acquired it. The buff logbook and V5 registration documents prove this beyond doubt.
The mileage currently reads 4170 miles, following back the mot certificates to the oldest one in 1990 the recorded mileage was 1038 miles, there were some years when it wasn't mot'ed but the mileage between the certificates is very little, so it has only done 3132 miles in the last 35 years.
The big question is what happened prior to 1990, one would presume that it had just ticked over the100,000, but there isn't any paperwork to prove or disprove this.
The exterior was repainted around 2013, the paintwork presents well, with a few minor imperfections and very few signs of corrosion.
The car starts easily and runs sweetly with good oil pressure, it will need a degree of servicing/ recommissioning and new tyres before use, this will be done along with a new mot certificate at the full price, if you would like to take the car on "as is", and do the work yourself, please ring for a chat.
A Cooper S in this condition, very original, stored well and gently maintained with good history is hard to come by, it really needs to be preserved and used gently rather than be pulled apart and over restored to the nth degree, it has a lovely "feel" to it that you just can't get back in a restored car------its only original once!
